Launched in 2002, the Champions in Action program is designed to recognize and support nonprofit organizations for their contributions to Rhode Island communities. A new champion is selected each quarter among a range of social service areas.
Citizens and NBC10 say they have committed more than $2 million in grants and free television airtime to dozens of organizations dedicated to a number of issues, including homelessness, elder care, community health care and the environment.
Each Champion in Action receives a $25,000 contribution in unrestricted funds from the Citizens Bank Foundation; media coverage from NBC 10, including public service announcements and television profiles; volunteer support from Citizens and NBC 10 employees; public relations support; promotional support, highlighting the Champion in Action in all Citizens Bank branches and on its ATMs; and exposure on both Citizens Bank and NBC 10 websites.
