Concentra buys 3 urgent care sites in Rhode Island

PROVIDENCE – Three urgent care centers and clinics in Rhode Island have been acquired by Concentra, an Addison, Texas-based national provider of occupational health and urgent care services.
Concentra, a privately held company with about $1 billion in annual revenue in 2010, acquired the assets of Urgent Medical Care of Smithfield, Urgent Medical Care of Cumberland and StatCare in Warwick, according to Matt Longman, director of media relations at Concentra. Longman declined to reveal the purchase price.
Concentra, which operates 63 centers and clinics in the Northeast, will consolidate the three centers with its own Providence-based occupational health and urgent care clinic into one Rhode Island division, with its headquarters at the former Stat Care clinic in Warwick.
On average, the clinics see about 75 patients per clinic each day, Longman said.
The three centers were purchased from Dr. Daniel Halpren-Ruder, who founded Urgent Medical Care in the mid-1990s and previously worked as an emergency physician with Rhode Island Hospital. Halpren-Ruder will now serve as the new Area Medical Director for Rhode Island, overseeing physicians and medical operations. &#8226
