CRANSTON – Eligible local residents will pay a lower interest rate for winterization assistance this year, according to Mayor Michael T. Napolitano.
The Housing Rehabilitation Program has lowered its interest rate from 4 percent to 2 percent, effective yesterday, to make it easier for qualified residents to button up their homes before cold weather hits. The mayor ordered the change “to help more Cranston residents save energy and stay safe and warm this winter,” he said in a statement yesterday.
“This year’s Farmer’s Almanac is predicting a colder than average winter,” Napolitano said. “Therefore, it is important for residents of Cranston to utilize The Housing Rehabilitation Program.”
The winterization assistance may include help with windows, doors, roofs and energy-efficient furnaces, he said. Eligibility is based on household income.
The Housing Rehabilitation Program for eligible Cranston residents is administered by the city’s Office of Community Development. To learn more, or to apply, call 461-1000, ext. 7226.
