PROVIDENCE – The Worksite Wellness Council of Rhode Island and CVS/Caremark executive Diane Lemoine were honored yesterday by the R.I. Department of Health with Community Partnership Awards.
The awards honor “exceptional community efforts that support the mission of the Health Department.”
• Diane Lemoine was honored as CVS’ liaison to the Women’s Cancer Screening program. Her work was part of a partnership – established in 2000 by the screening program, CVS/pharmacy and local hospitals – aimed at increasing access to breast-cancer screening for low-income women.
Through her efforts, the Health Department said, 16 events have been coordinated with Kent, Rhode Island and Fatima hospitals, more than 1,800 uninsured and underinsured women have been screened and 11 cases of breast cancer have been diagnosed.
• The Worksite Wellness Council of Rhode Island was honored for its support of Gov. Donald L. Carcieri’s drive to make Rhode Island the first “Well State” in the nation – a goal the state achieved on April 10.
“This hard work has paid off, and earlier this month Rhode Island became the first Well State in the U.S. and was given an award by the Wellness Councils of America because 20 percent of the work force in Rhode Island is employed by companies certified by WELCOA as Well Workplaces,” the department said.
The nonprofit – a WELCOA affiliate– has 178 member organizations in the public and private sectors, 67 of which have won certification as Well Workplaces.
