William M. Davies, Jr. Career & Technical High School is pleased to announce that the American Culinary Federation Education Foundation (ACFEF) has accredited the Hospitality Careers; Culinary Arts program, effective December 31, 2015. The accreditation affirms the school’s pledge to uphold national industry standards as set forth by ACFEF and to provide a skilled work force in culinary careers.

The American Culinary Federation was founded in 1929 in New York City to develop and maintain the professional image of chefs and culinarians at all levels. Their educational branch, the American Culinary Federation Education Foundation (ACFEF), provides an accreditation program to ensure that culinary education programs meet or exceed their high standards.
Davies Hospitality Careers students acquire skills in food sanitation and safety, hot and cold food preparation, commercial tools and equipment, baking, nutrition and menu planning, as well as presentation and customer service. Students also have the opportunity to earn industry certifications in ServSave and ProStart, nationally recognized food training programs.
Over the course of a two-day visit, Davies culinary instructors Amy Hitzemann, Pete Fangiullo, and Santos Nieves met with ACFEF representatives to ensure the school’s learning objectives aligned with ACFEF’s standards and to give the accreditor an opportunity to review the facilities and speak with students.
Upon receiving accreditation, Chef Pete Fangiullo remarked on the achievement, “They [ACFEF] are the industry standard. Accreditation makes sure we’re up-to-date with our certificates, our equipment, and our curriculum.”
Davies HS, located on Jenckes Hill Road in Lincoln, RI, is both a four year academic and career and technical high school which serves more than 800 students from the Central Falls, Lincoln, North Providence, Pawtucket, Providence and Smithfield communities.
