What led you to choose health care as your profession? My path through life has exposed me to quite a breadth of lived experiences. One of the common trends in this journey has been that taking care of others is a central part of who I am. How have you helped boost the quality of or access to health care? My research has informed how we can improve the delivery of health care from a technological perspective from the development of faster diagnostics to next-gen antimicrobial technologies. My research environment has also led toward the training of health care providers who represent and understand their cultures, resulting in a more equitable delivery of care. On the public health side of things, I’ve helped make sure that highly dynamic and complex information can be delivered with simplicity and sensitivity.
What is the biggest challenge you and your organization are facing this year? As a collaborative, our challenges are the same as those faced across the nation. As health care evolves, we must also ensure that how we deliver care is equitable and inclusive. As a response to these challenges, we’ve expanded on our Office of Belonging, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion to ensure that the next generation of health care providers are representative of those they serve.
Tell us one thing that most people don’t know about you. When I wish to fully unplug, many would be surprised to learn that I am a master gardener, and I enjoy flying and sailing.
