
The R.I. Department of Transportation plans to move most bus routes out of Kennedy Plaza in downtown Providence, sending them to new hubs on Dyer Street near the Garrahy Courthouse and at Providence Station.
Nearly half of the bus routes that now stop or start in Kennedy Plaza would be moved to the Dyer Street location. Some critics of the Providence Multi-Hub Bus System have complained that would require passengers to get on another bus to go to the center of downtown or the train station.

The new plan is the third created by the state. The first proposed a transit hub moving most of the buses from Kennedy Plaza to a new central transportation center near Providence Station, along with private development that never materialized.
After that came a multihub proposal that failed to gain traction.
The new plan would leave 28% of passenger routes at Kennedy Plaza, allowing for greater use of the plaza and an improved transportation network, according to the state.
