PROVIDENCE – Bus shelters for the Downtown Transit Connector are under construction in Providence but the high-frequency service remains almost a year away.

The shelter sites under active construction are located on the corner of Dorrance Street, at Pine Street, on Eddy Street north of Ship Street, and on Eddy Street by South Street Landing, according to the R.I. Public Transit Authority.

The high-frequency bus-transit corridor will connect the hospital district of South Providence to Providence Station. Six stops with shelters and digital displays will be formed as part of the $17 million project.

Once operating, the bus service will include stops every 5 minutes along the dedicated path, according to RIPTA.

The service is anticipated to begin in early 2020.
