After three miscarriages, registered nurse Hollie Barclay founded Mother’s Nature, which provides mobile ultrasounds and visiting-nursing services to expectant and new mothers.

Launched in May, the business is housed in owner Barclay’s Rehoboth home studio at 18 Rocky Hill Road, where educational classes and free support groups meet and elective ultrasounds can be produced. A storefront at 3 Park St. also provides a place for appointments for nursing consultations, said Barclay.

In August, Barclay partnered with Kristen Brown, another RN.

“The concept [for the business] started with the fact that I suffered three miscarriages and there was nothing in the area for elective ultrasounds,” she said.

The ultrasounds are not done for medical or diagnostic reasons, she explained, but rather as “keepsakes” or to get “a quick peek” to ensure “everything’s OK” at six weeks or later and “reduce the anxiety that revolves around pregnancy.” •
