Rhode Island’s largest law firm, Edwards & Angell LLP, plans to merge with Boston-based Palmer & Dodge LLP by Nov. 1, both firms announced yesterday in a joint statement.
The new firm, Edwards Angell Palmer & Dodge, will have 520 lawyers practicing in nine offices located in the Northeast and Florida. In Providence, the firm will operate from Edwards & Angell’s 83-attorney office at 2800 Financial Plaza, according to the statement.

“At the heart of this merger is our desire to bring together the best, most talented professionals, who will now have the opportunity to work together and share their experiences and expertise for the benefit of our clients,” said Finn, managing partner of Edwards & Angell, in a prepared statement.
Founded in Providence in 1894, Edwards & Angell employs 340 attorneys in its nine offices. Palmer & Dodge, established more than 100 years ago in Boston, has 180 attorneys in Boston, the statement said.
The combined firm will offer legal services in more than 20 practice areas.
