Eight local students win Cox scholarships

WEST WARWICK – Cox Communications awarded scholarships to eight Rhode Island seniors planning to pursue a degree in communications, telecommunications, technology or engineering at a ceremony in the Statehouse earlier this month attended by Attorney General Peter F. Kilmartin.

“Each year, Cox Communications recognizes some of the best and brightest students in Rhode Island, and this year’s scholarship recipients are no exception… Each student has excelled academically as well as given back to their community. I commend them for their accomplishments and wish them all the best in what will no doubt be very bright futures,” said Kilmartin.

The eight recipients, listed below, will each receive a $2,000 scholarship.

  • Austin Lind, a senior at North Kingstown High School, who plans to pursue a degree in broadcasting and communications
  • Margaret Miniati, a senior at Barrington High School, who plans to attend Elon University to pursue a degree in strategic communications
  • Oliver Hazard, a senior at North Smithfield High School, who plans to attend the University of Rhode Island to pursue a degree in electrical engineering
  • Qi Wen Chen, a senior at Cranston High East, who plans to attend the University of Rhode Island to pursue a degree in engineering
  • Ryan Viti, a senior at Toll Gate High School, who plans to attend the University of Delaware to study engineering
  • Stephanie R. Racca, a senior at Warwick Veterans Memorial High School, who plans to attend Worcester Polytechnic Institute to pursue a degree in computer science
  • Valentina Rossell, a senior at Johnston Senior High School, who plans to attend the University of Rhode Island to study computer engineering
  • Vivian Tian, a senior at Barrington High School, who plans to attend Harvard University to study computer science

    • Cox has awarded almost $600,000 in scholarships to high school seniors in Rhode Island, Connecticut and Ohio since 1994.
