Elorza, Farm Fresh R.I. honored with grant from U.S. Conference of Mayors

PROVIDENCE – Mayor Jorge O. Elorza and Farm Fresh Rhode Island were honored with a 2017 Community Working/Investing in Neighborhood Stabilization grant at the United States Conference of Mayors in Miami last weekend.

The awards include monetary grants to city-based nonprofit organizations and recognition for mayors who display exemplary leadership in developing local programs that promote long-term economic prosperity and improve the quality of life for residents in three categories: neighborhood stabilization, economic development and job creation.

Providence placed first for the “medium”-sized city award. San Francisco won first place for large U.S. cities, while Lancaster, Pa., won in the small city category.

Elorza was presented $150,000 on behalf of Farm Fresh Rhode Island, which will use the grant to plan, construct and outfit its Harvest Kitchen Program at the site at the intersection of Kinsley and Sims avenues.
