Erica Busillo Adams

PBN 40 UNDER FORTY 2020 AWARD WINNER Erica Busillo Adams, 34 | Director of Development, Providence Public Library

What is the best advice you have ever received? Garry Marshall, of “Pretty Woman” fame, was the commencement speaker at my younger brother’s college graduation. He had a simple message: Fail better. I’d never considered failure to be valuable before. In fact, I had grown up believing that failure was to be avoided at all costs.I now believe a healthy respect, and even reverence, for failure is necessary in life. To learn how to fail better means to learn how to be resilient, how to own your mistakes and how to take risks.

Where do you see yourself in five years? If I’m not still at Providence Public Library (a highly likely possibility!), I see myself having transitioned into an executive director role at one of the many incredible nonprofit organizations here in the Ocean State.

What is your greatest attribute that you bring to your job? My ability to cultivate, grow and sustain meaningful and impactful relationships – with donors, funders, volunteers, partners, stakeholders, community members and, of course, staff.
