Ethisphere rates Textron among best for ethics

PROVIDENCE – Ethisphere Institute has named Textron Inc. (NYSE: TXT) one of the top government contractors in ethics in its Government Contractor Ethics 2008 Rankings, honoring best practices and efforts in ethics.

“Textron is honored to be recognized as an industry leader in government contractor ethics,” said Terrence O’Donnell, the company’s executive vice president and general counsel. “We are committed to the continuous improvement of our culture of compliance and determined to uphold and enforce our high ethical standards.”

Textron Inc. was ranked fourth overall – out of the more than 1,000 companies evaluated – with a classification of “excellent” and a total ethics program score of 93.1. The Providence-based company received top honors in the Best Ethics Program Overall, Best Ethics Training and Communications Programs, and Internal Control Systems categories.

Researchers from the Ethisphere Institute evaluated government contractors based on an analysis of four aspects of their ethics program: code of ethics and business conduct, leadership and tone from the top, internal control systems, and ethics training and communication programs. Any company that does at least $5 million in annual business with the U.S. government is eligible to participate.
