Fall River sells two schools

FALL RIVER – Two down, 13 to go. The Fall River City Council this week approved the sale of two vacant schools. The city must still dispose of another 13 empty schools.
On Tuesday, the City Council approved the sale of Coughlin Elementary School to Fall River-based Renaissance Woodworking for a mere $1.90, city Purchasing Agent Arlene Robinette told Providence Business News.
Renaissance Woodworking has proposed turning Coughlin into a nonprofit school. The Coughlin School of Peace would be a “center for enlightenment” and offer a mix of traditional education alongside peace-focused classes in music, art and science.
Separately, the council approved the sale of Brayton Avenue Elementary School to developer Jerry Donovan for $1,000, Robinette said. The developer wants to raze the school and build duplexes on the lot.
