Fallen wires halt rail service to NYC

Amtrak and Metro North rail service from Boston and northern Connecticut to New York City was suspended shortly after 6 a.m. because of damage to the overhead wires that power the trains, Bloomberg News reported.
The interruption came when all four overhead wires between Greenwich and Cos Cob were damaged or fell, Metro North said. Service to one track has been restored, and the line has resumed service from northern Connecticut to New York with stops at Greenwich and limited return service with no stops at Greenwich, the commuter railroad said.
Amtrak service between Boston and New York City’s Pennsylvania Station was partially restored at 7:15 a.m., the national railroad said.
“What caused this, we just don’t know at this point,” Metro North spokesman Daniel M. Brucker said. “But I will tell you … it’s going to be very limited service, with just one track out of four, a lot of trains backed up and a lot of delays.” Amtrak also was predicting delays throughout the day.
