PROVIDENCE – The sixth annual Flames of Hope, which promotes breast cancer awareness and education as well as honoring people living with breast cancer, has expanded to a three-day event.
This year’s activities include a conference, Your Passport to Survivorship, on Friday, Oct. 7, a Kids & Family Block Party as well as a special lighting ceremony for WaterFire on Saturday, Oct. 8, and a 5K race on Sunday morning, Oct. 9.
The event is sponsored by the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation. More than 110,000 people are expected to attend the Flames of Hope weekend activities, according to the foundation.
During the weekend, a 2012 calendar, “Celebrate Hope, Celebrate Life,” featuring breast cancer survivors photographed by Richard Benjamin in scenic areas across Rhode Island, will be unveiled.
Proceeds from the 5K race, which is expected to attract more than 5,000 participants, will support a new statewide effort to develop rehabilitation protocols and programs for all cancer patients.
