Foreclosure rates increase in Providence region

SACREMENTO, Calif. – The rate of foreclosures in the Providence-New Bedford-Fall River market increased 0.7 percent in June from the year-ago rate, aligning itself with the national July average of 1.6 percent, according to national data collector American CoreLogic.
Home prices in the region also fell 11.52 percent, to $247,000, from the same month last year. Nationally, home prices fell by a slightly-less 10.7 percent, according to the American CoreLogic LoanPerformance Home Price Index. The national median price was $208,000.
The highest prices in the region were in ZIP code 02806, Barrington, where the median price was $541,000. The lowest prices were in Providence’s 02909 ZIP code, where the median price was $129,900, according to the report released last week.
Sales volume fell by 23.9 percent, to 1,286 sales in June 2008. In June 2007, 1,690 sales of new and existing homes were recorded in the region.
