Years in business: Four
Employees: 200
Cost to obtain franchise: $55,000 initial franchise fee; $115,000-$125,000 total startup cost
Before opening franchise: Dersidan worked for close to 10 years as an executive in the food service industry.
Reason for opening: Dersidan felt more like he wanted to make a difference in people’s lives with Home Instead in lieu of working in the food industry.
“
The food industry didn’t inspire me. It didn’t seem meaningful enough. It didn’t seem where I was feeling like I was giving back and making a difference in someone’s life. When you give someone a meal [at a restaurant], it’s a forgettable experience. You feel good for about an hour and move on to the next thing.”
“We are continuing to keep everyone safe. We’re doing daily screening of our staff before every shift. We provide [personal protective equipment] in the home on a regular basis to make sure people have these available. We continually educate [employees] to keep their distance when they’re not providing personal care, and with good hygiene. We also gave staff the opportunity to get tested and vaccinated.”
“Providing care for a senior in their homes changes their life, and their family’s life, for the better. I feel privileged to do that, along with our staff, because it really feels good … to give back and to help people in our community.”
