PROVIDENCE – Another New England restaurant chain has closed multiple locations without notice.

Six Friendly’s locations, including its casual restaurant and ice cream shop in Seekonk, were closed on Sunday by the chain’s parent company, FIC Restaurants Inc.

FIC closed locations in Seekonk and Springfield, Mass.; Bennington, Vt., and Rutland, Vt.; Dover, N.H.; and East Greenbush, N.Y.

The company in a statement said the closed locations no longer delivered “the customer experience that we are working to create.”

Officials of the company said affected employees have been offered transfers to other Friendly’s restaurants. The officials said the company alternately is providing short-term financial assistance.

No staff members have been available for comment.

The statement provided to media said Friendly’s is continuing to operate “200 restaurant locations across the Eastern seaboard.”

Friendly’s locations in Attleboro, Swansea, Fall River and North Providence remain open.

Former Rhode Island restaurant executive John Maguire is the company’s CEO.

Earlier this year, both the Papa Gino’s and Bertucci’s chains shuttered multiple locations.
