PROVIDENCE – Despite a drop in crude oil prices, the cost of gasoline at the pump continued to push up over the last week, according to AAA Southern New England.
The auto club’s May 9 survey of Rhode Island gas stations showed self-serve, unleaded regular averaging $4.05 per gallon, a gain of 3 cents from last week and 90 cents since the beginning of 2011, as well as $1.08 above the average price a year ago in Rhode Island. The price is 9 cents greater than the national average.
Prices held steady in Massachusetts on the week, as the average price for self-serve, unleaded regular gas stayed at $3.95 per gallon, which is $1.07 greater than a year ago.
At stations in Rhode Island this week, the survey found average self-serve prices of $4.18 per gallon for midgrade unleaded, $4.30 for premium unleaded gasoline and $4.17 for diesel.
