PBN: What is the role of the Professional Advisory Council at The Rhode Island Foundation?
GLADNEY: The Professional Advisory Council works with the staff of the foundation to provide guidance on outreach to professional advisers. The foundation is an incredible resource for advisers who are working with clients who are charitably inclined. Our hope is that every professional in the fields of law, accounting, insurance and financial planning will be familiar with the foundation’s mission and services and feel comfortable referring clients who are passionate about making a difference in Rhode Island.

PBN: Why did you choose to become involved with The Rhode Island Foundation?
GLADNEY: I first became involved with the Rhode Island Foundation in 2002 when I referred a long-time client who was making small gifts to many different charities. She was working on her estate plan, and I thought partnering with the foundation would be a great way for her to consolidate her philanthropy and establish a charitable legacy. Since that time, I have referred others and have created a donor-advised fund myself. The foundation has been a fantastic partner for me, both professionally and personally.

PBN: What are your goals for the council for 2010?
GLADNEY: My main goal is find additional ways that the members of the council can help the foundation raise its visibility in the community. The professional advisers on the council are ambassadors who can help spread the word about the foundation, its work and the incredible need in the state. The foundation is committed to making an impact and improving the lives of all Rhode Islanders. They are the state’s largest funder and they make grants to organizations in every city and town for education, health care, the environment, economic development, arts and social services. As the trusted adviser to our client, we can ensure that they know what a valuable resource and partner the foundation can be. &#8226
