PROVIDENCE – Alexis Gorriarán, the longtime chairman of the Providence Tourism Council, has been named the executive director of the nonprofit agency, which is closely affiliated with city government on economic development through tourism. Gorriarán joined the council in 2014 as a commissioner before being appointed chairman in 2017. He took over as executive director on April 1, said council spokesperson Victoria Polansky. The position has been vacant for 15 years. As executive director, Gorriarán will serve as the organization’s chief strategist and ambassador, overseeing strategic planning, operations, marketing, partnerships, and program execution to drive visitation and year-round economic activity to Providence, according to the release. “Alexis has been a key driver of Providence’s evolution as a cultural and tourism destination for years,” said Meg Clurman, interim chair of the Providence Tourism Council. “He is a true champion of our city, and his vision and creativity have helped shape experiences that resonate far beyond our borders. This appointment is both a natural progression and an exciting step forward for the organization and for Providence.” Gorriarán’s career spans roles across hospitality, tourism, marketing and global event strategy. As a vice president at (add)ventures from 2019 to 2021, he led campaigns for Fortune 500, nonprofit and government clients, including major hospitality and destination initiatives. From May 2021 to August 2025, Gorriarán served as a senior global marketing event strategist at Intel Corp. In that role, he directed large-scale global experiences and campaigns supporting global business growth and brand engagement at scale. “I have dedicated much of my career helping tell Providence’s story - and there are so many exciting moments to share about our city” said Gorriarán.“Providence’s strength lies in its creativity, culture, and community. I’m honored to build on that foundation and continue elevating the city as a must-visit destination while delivering meaningful economic and cultural impact for residents and partners alike.”
