GTECH Corp. launched its newest After School Advantage computer lab at Big Sisters of Rhode Island’s headquarters in Cranston.
“GTECH’s donation will add a valuable and lasting component to the already extensive list of mentoring programs developed and implemented by Big Sisters of Rhode Island,” said Robert Vincent, senior vice president of corporate affairs at GTECH.
The $15,000 computer lab, which was built by GTECH employees, features six flat-panel computers, a digital printer, and a suite of educational software including Internet access, word processing capabilities, and standardized- test practice software. The lab also received renovations, which included new desks and chairs, a fresh coat of paint and inspirational posters.
The newly renovated space will enhance the academic and technological skills of more than 200 girls per year who are enrolled in mentor-based programs sponsored by the Big Sisters of Rhode Island.
Since GTECH launched the After School Advantage Program on April 14, 1999, the company has installed 129 computer centers in 23 states. •
