Heartlab technology selected by Calif. medical center

WESTERLY – Heartlab Inc. announced late last month that its Encompass Cardiac Network has been selected by San Francisco’s California Pacific Medical Center to archive and manage cardiology image and information at its newly opened Kanbar Cardiac Center.

The medical center, an affiliate of Sutter Health, is a private, not-for-profit
medical center that provides advanced medical services to patients in the Greater
San Francisco Bay area. The Kanbar Center, which opened Sept. 1, offers advanced
technology and state-of-the-art equipment to diagnose and treat cardiovascular
disease.

“The Kanbar Center is part of a larger vision to grow our cardiology program
and increase the quality of patient care in northern California,” said Dr. Richard
J. Gray, medical director of Sutter Pacific Heart Centers.

Yahoo to tap local ad market with search feature

SUNNYVALE, Calif. – Yahoo! Inc., owner of the second most-used Internet search engine, said it added a new search engine that focuses on users’ local areas as it tries to sell more advertising to small businesses.

Yahoo said in a statement that listings for local businesses also were added to results generated by its main search engine. The company has been testing the local-search service since August.

Yahoo’s new feature and a competing service that Google Inc., the most-used search engine, is developing are attempts to tap in to the $22 billion a year that small businesses such as restaurants and bookstores spend on advertising, Internet analyst Greg Sterling said. Internet sites now have 7 percent of that market, he said.

“Over the long term, as more consumers use these kind of search products, I think advertisers will increasingly want to be on them,” said Sterling, an Oakland, Calif.-based analyst for the Kelsey Group market research firm. He said he doesn’t own shares of Yahoo or Google. (Bloomberg News)
