Hospital tech system aims to speed communication

NEWPORT – Newport Hospital has begun using an Ascom communication system, allowing nurse-call alerts to go directly to clinician mobile devices. The smart devices and software integration allow for better collaboration and workflow, Ascom said in a news release.

According to the statement, the new communication method began at the Lifespan Corp. facility in November.

”We have already worked with Miriam Hospital, a sister facility in the Lifespan health care system, and now look forward to also helping Newport Hospital realize their vision of full mobile integration,” said Rob Goldman, president, Ascom North America.

Android-based Ascom Myco 2 has a smart handset developed specifically for health care. Ascom said it provides for more-streamlined communication, connecting clinicians with each other, their patients and clinical systems such as electronic medical records, labs and patient monitoring.

Newport Hospital also selected an Ascom reporting application that measures call volumes and response times, and illustrates call trends, according to Ascom.

Ascom is headquartered in Switzerland; its U.S. base is in North Carolina.
