JWU awarded federal grant to create new medical and health humanities minor

PROVIDENCE – Johnson & Wales University has received a $33,822 Humanities Connection Planning grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities to help create a new interdisciplinary minor in medical and health humanities.

JWU said that medical and health humanities is a growing field and there’s “mounting evidence” that education in the humanities not only helps students develop critical-thinking skills and problem-solving but also increases their familiarity with diverse approaches to disease and health care. Creating a minor in medical and health humanities at JWU will enhance the university’s health education while infusing humanities content and practices into the curriculum, JWU said.

Johnson & Wales University is the only college in Rhode Island to receive an NEH grant this round. The university plans to launch the new minor program in the fall of 2023.
