The New England chapter of the International Interior Design Association gave kudos to the Student Services Center at the Johnson & Wales University Providence campus.
The association bestowed an honorable mention on the building designed by ARC/Architectural Resources Cambridge. The 30,000-square-foot Student Services Center at the downtown campus also recently won the “Rehabilitation Award” from the Providence Preservation Society.
Located at 274 Pine St. and known informally as the Rolo Building, the two-story structure was built in 1921 during the heyday of jewelry manufacturing Providence. Johnson & Wales asked the architectural firm to integrate modern amenities while preserving the building’s historic charm.
Elsewhere, ARC received the award for the Best Research/Lab Interior for Genzyme
Corporation’s Science Center in Framingham, Mass.
“We’re very pleased to receive these awards as they recognize ARC’s commitment to design quality and innovation,” ARC President Philip Laird said.
The International Interior Design Association (IIDA) is a professional networking and educational association of 13,000 members in 10 specialty forums in 30 chapters around the world. Additional information is available on IIDA’s Web site www.iida.org.
