How have you helped boost the quality of access to health care? I have always advocated for my patients, and so much so, I invented a better external male catheter – the KT Cath.

What is the biggest challenge you and your organization are facing this year? Funding has always been a challenge as a startup, but the state of Rhode Island has supported the growth of startups. I have received grant funding to get us to a great turning point in the business.

What more do you feel the state can do to help further support the health care sector in Rhode Island? Through the state, I received the innovation voucher to help my business grow. The state also supports nonprofits, such as the New England Medical Innovation Center, and more grant funding is coming through the state to the R.I. Life Science Hub. More grants are always the best for startups.

Are you confident patient access and quality of care will improve in Rhode Island over the next five years? Why or why not? I think Brown University now leading the charge at [the former] Lifespan Corp. hospitals will improve care.

Tell us one thing that most people don’t know about you. My first concert was “Weird Al” Yankovic with my best friend, Megan.
