Kent Hospital to host career fair for teenagers

Aiming to encourage young people to consider careers in health care, Kent Hospital is hosting a career fair on April 30 to allow middle and high school students, their teachers, parents and others an opportunity to learn about career options in the field.
The event, to be held from 4 to 7 p.m. in the hospital’s Doctors’ Auditorium, will bring teens together with experienced clinical and nonclinical specialists representing nursing, medicine and surgery, laboratory, diagnostic imaging and x-ray, nutrition, rehabilitation therapies and more. Also participating are the Community College of Rhode Island and the New England Institute of Technology. Last year, about 120 students attended a similar event at the hospital.
“We’ve reached out with information about this event to schools across Rhode Island over the past few weeks and will have materials available during the open house that students, parents and teachers can take away and use to consider career choices,” said Raymond Thurber, senior education specialist at the hospital. “Most of all, everyone who comes will have a chance to spend time in one-on-one conversations with health professionals who can explain specific career paths and the training required. We also plan tours of key areas in the hospital so our guests can get a behind-the-scenes look at the advanced technology in use at Kent.”
