LaFortune wins Ward 3 City Council seat

PROVIDENCE – Unofficial results from the Providence Board of Canvassers show Nirva Rebecca LaFortune won 94 percent of the votes in the Ward 3 Providence City Council special election on Wednesday, according to WPRI-TV CBS 12.

LaFortune will replace councilman Kevin Jackson, who was recalled by voters after being arrested and indicted on charges that he embezzled from a youth track and field organization that he founded.

LaFortune will complete the current City Council term and be up for re-election next year while still being eligible to run for three more terms consecutively.

LaFortune is currently an employee at Brown University.
