WEST WARWICK – Lighting Science Group Corp., an LED manufacturer that specializes in biologically friendly lightbulbs, has appointed Khim Lee as president to drive the next stage of growth for the company.

In March, Lighting Science separated its private-label LED business into the spinoff Global Value Lighting, a joint venture with Chinese LED manufacturer MLS Co. Ltd. Since launching the spinoff, Lighting Science has refocused on its core mission to innovate state-of-the-art biological, horticultural and urban lighting solutions.
As president of Lighting Science, Lee will oversee all strategic and business aspects of the company and its commercial and consumer brands, which include the GoodNight, GoodDay and Sleepy Baby LED bulbs as well as the GroBar light developed by Lighting Science’s horticultural subsidiary VividGro.
“I am very excited to bring my experience to Lighting Science and the fast-growing sectors we are targeting,” said Lee. “We are looking forward to bringing the benefits of lighting technology to our customers. Whether in living spaces such as offices and bedrooms, classrooms or plant-growth facilities, our products are improving the quality of lives and enhancing crop yields.”
Lee has more than 15 years of experience in management consulting and private-equity operations. Most recently, he served as an operating executive at Vector Capital, a technology-focused private-equity fund based in San Francisco, where he led a number of strategic and cross-portfolio initiatives.
Prior to his tenure at Vector Capital, Lee spent three years as the product line director at Philips Lumileds, a business division of Philips Lighting, where he launched the company’s mid-power LED product line. Lee holds a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering and economics from the University of California, Berkeley and a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from the California Institute of Technology.
In his new role at Lighting Science, Lee will join the company’s existing team of executives, which includes Abraham Morris, executive chairman of Lighting Science; Ed Bednarcik, CEO of Global Value Lighting; David Friedman, recently appointed president of VividGro; and Fred Maxik, founder and chief technology officer of Lighting Science.
