PROVIDENCE – Local 1 percent hotel tax collections in June totaled $503,230, $83,778 more than June 2016 collections, according to the R.I. Department of Revenue Thursday.
The 20 percent year-over-year jump includes $68,727 due to the expansion of the local 1 percent hotel tax to include the reselling of lodging via online travel companies, home rentals and online unlicensed rentals.

Providence collections increased the largest nominal amount ($35,020) year over year in June to $113,461. Newport collections declined $18,307, the largest nominal decrease, year over year to $114,529.
Fiscal year-to-date, Rhode Island local 1 percent hotel tax collections totaled $4.4 million, an 8.9 percent increase year over year.
The municipality with the largest nominal increase year-to-date in June was Narragansett, which increased $99,020 year over year to $167,486. Pawtucket collections dropped the most of any municipality in Rhode Island fiscal year-to-date in June, falling $16,787 to $1,777.
