Sports Radio 103.7 WEEI-FM teamed up with Saccoccio & Associates Architects, Gem Plumbing & Heating and the Cranston Rotary to build a display made entirely of cans of food to compete in Canstruction 2008, an international charity competition.
Architects, engineers, contractors and the students they mentor compete to design and build giant structures composed entirely of full cans of food. This year’s event took place at The Providence Place Mall and all of the canned food from the Providence competition will be donated to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank.
The structure sponsored by WEEI, “Extinguish Hunger,” was designed and built by the Saccoccio & Associates Architects. Gem Plumbing & Heating and the Cranston Rotary joined in to help with the project. “Extinguish Hunger” was on display in the skywalk at Providence Place Mall from Sept. 13 through Sept. 26. On Sept. 27, the sculptures were deconstructed and donated. The “Extinguish Hunger” display won two awards: Best Meal and Juror’s Favorite. •
