Mass. politicians call for food vendor at Mansfield center

MANSFIELD – Massachusetts politicians are calling for a commercial food vendor at the visitor’s center at the Interstate 95 rest area near Mansfield, The Sun Chronicle reported.
The group – consisting of Bristol County state legislators and U.S. Rep. Barney Frank – said at recent press conference that the center could do a better job of greeting tourists if it included a vendor. The center currently serves 300 travelers each day.
State Rep. Betty Poirier, R-North Attleboro, said vendors such as McDonald’s and Dunkin’ Donuts would line up to compete for a contract to operate the rest area, according to the Sun.
Tourist information such as brochures, maps and advice on hotel deals would still be available at the visitor’s center through the Plymouth County Development Council, which took over the building after the state shut it down because of budget cuts.
The group said it will push its case with the U.S. Department of Transportation to get regulations changed so a vendor could take over the rest area. &#8226
