Ryan McCaffrey has been named dedicated-perks account executive at WEEI-FM 103.7. He will be responsible for booking all trade e-commerce sales with restaurants and retailers for the Providence Perks website and will gain experience in sales, writing commercial copy and Internet-data skills. He has a B.A. in sports, entertainment and event management from Johnson & Wales University.
PBN: You were quickly hired right after graduating from college. What professional skills do you think helped you get hired?
MCCAFFREY: I believe two different factors really helped in my transition from college grad to hired professional. The first was that I started interning during my freshman year of college, and every year after as well at respected places of business. Building a strong resume and professional work experience, along with excelling in my studies, allowed me to market myself as an experienced candidate in the job market. The second factor would have been the professional skills I learned as intern and as a student. Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills have [contributed] to my success in the transition from college.

PBN: What are you looking forward to in your new responsibilities at WEEI-FM?
MCCAFFREY: I am looking to gain experience in the sales, marketing and advertising industry. I am looking forward to continuing to develop the New England Perks program, of which I have taken shared responsibility, with my direct supervisor. I am excited to face the challenges ahead and to have the opportunity to expand our business horizon through the Perks program. I hope to continue to learn professional skills from the great staff here with which I work, and adopt those skills as my own.
PBN: From your experience, describe a milestone or lesson you will reference throughout your future career.
MCCAFFREY: A lesson to which I will continue to refer throughout my future career would be to seize every opportunity presented to me and always keep an open mind to the possibilities. If I were to sit back and not act on opportunities … I probably would not have gotten anywhere near where I am today. I also know that the hard decisions to make are usually the right ones and that no matter the situation, sticking to my principles and values will allow me to reach all of my future career goals. •
