PROVIDENCE – Gov. Dan J. McKee is spending another day in isolation and working remotely after testing positive for COVID-19 on Aug 20.
The 71-year-old governor is experiencing minor symptoms and is in good spirits, according to a press release issued Sunday by spokesman Matt Sheaff. McKee is double boosted and is taking the antiviral medication Paxlovid.

McKee said on Twitter on Sunday that he would be isolating himself for five days and looked forward to “getting back to the office with my team soon.” The Democrat is in the midst of a primary election race with four opponents.
The governor had been scheduled to greet U.S. Secretary of Education Dr. Miguel Cardona on Monday in Newport. The education secretary is in the city to speak with education leaders from around New England.
McKee is expected to continue working while remaining in isolation. It is his first time testing positive since the pandemic.
“The governor is in good spirits and is grateful for the support of his family and staff. He looks forward to getting back to work in person, meeting with constituents and keeping Rhode Island’s economic momentum going,” Sheaff said.
Sheaff said the governor’s team will reach out to those who may have been exposed over the past two days. Per guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, those exposed are encouraged to monitor for symptoms and test on the sixth day after potential exposure.
