PAWTUCKET – For the second time in a row, Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island has earned a three-year accreditation with commendation for its Comprehensive Cancer Program, a designation awarded to only one in four cancer programs in hospitals nationwide.
The program recently underwent an evaluation and on-site review by the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons, which seeks to improve survival and quality of life for cancer patients through standard-setting, prevention, research, education and monitoring of cancer programs.
Dr. Anthony Thomas, chief of hematology/oncology, noted that patients have access to several research studies, and “we continually look toward promising therapies on the horizon as well.” •
