MLK Center’s “Keeper of the Dream” honors Gilbane Building Co., others

Community members from across Newport County gathered at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center on June 26th for the Center’s Keeper of the Dream and Annual Meeting. The annual event honors those who exemplify the ideals of Dr. King and the mission of the Center which includes a passion for equality and justice, promotion of the center and its work in the community and a commitment to creating opportunities for those needing advocates. The MLKCenter also released its 2012 Annual Report.

 

The MLKCenter presented awards to Keeper of the Dream, David D. Schuller; Corporate Keeper of the Dream, Gilbane Building Company; and Volunteer of the Year, Donald G. Pfeiffer.

Rhode Island’s First Lady Stephanie Chafee was the evening’s keynote speaker.

 

“The Keeper of the Dream honors heroes whose passion and dedication have made an outstanding impression on the Center, and our community. The trustees and staff unanimously agreed on our honorees; We are excited to celebrate their contributions”, said Marilyn Warren, Executive Director.

 

The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center serves individuals and families in Newport County who seek collaborative and innovative approaches to child development, to hunger relief and to  helping individuals reach their highest potential.
