PBN names 2019 Fastest Growing & Innovative Companies POSTED ONLINE: AUG. 16.Twenty local companies have earned a spot on Providence Business News’ 2019 list of Fastest Growing Private Companies, and 14 organizations were named among the state’s most innovative for the paper’s annual program. Companies are ranked based on the highest-percentage growth in revenue from 2016 to 2018 in four separate revenue categories. The organizations will be honored on Sept. 18 at the Omni Providence Hotel.

2. An outlier comes to Providence PUBLISHED IN PRINT: AUG. 9. Reading, Pa.-based department store chain Boscov’s will open at Providence Place at the end of September, replacing Nordstrom as one of the mall’s anchor tenants. Approximately 200 people are expected to work at the location, which will sell clothing, cosmetics, furniture, toys, appliances, housewares and will even feature a candy counter with a nostalgic feel.

3. CVS Health offers employees prescription to improved well-being PUBLISHED IN PRINT: AUG. 9. CVS Health Corp.’s Path to Nutrition program offers healthy fare in its on-site cafes, partnering with local fitness clubs. There are also smoking cessation and financial well-being tools in place at the Woonsocket-based company.

4. Purchase of I-195 district parcel on East Side moves forward POSTED ONLINE: AUG. 21. An agreement for the purchase and sale of Parcel 6 on Providence’s East Side was executed, with a cost of $1 million. The project involves the construction of a mixed-use building on Wickenden Street, which is to include between 49 and 62 apartments, as well as a retail grocery of 13,100 square feet. About 9,000 square feet of additional retail will also be available.

5. Editor Mark S. Murphy to exit paper, joins John H. Chafee Center for International Business POSTED ONLINE: AUG. 27. Providence Business News Editor Mark S. Murphy will leave the paper Sept. 23 after 14 years to become the new director of the John H. Chafee Center for International Business at Bryant University. He succeeds Raymond W. Fogarty, who died on Sept. 27, 2018. Under Murphy’s tenure as editor, PBN has garnered dozens of local, regional and national awards for its coverage. Murphy is also a past president of the Rhode Island Press Association.
