NEWPORT – The Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division Newport announced last week it will host the 2017 Advanced Naval Technology Exercise in collaboration with the Naval Surface Warfare Center Panama City Division headquartered in Panama City, Fla.
ANTX is an annual multiday event originally conceived by NUWC to demonstrate future U.S. Navy technology like drones in action in a low-risk environment, allowing scientists and engineers to evaluate the technologies at the research-and-development level before prototypes are considered for militarization or integrated into U.S. Navy operations.

Past ANTX events have brought together U.S. warfare centers, universities and industry partners to showcase unmanned systems and related technologies.
This year’s ANTX event, scheduled for Aug. 15-16, will involve more than 20 lead participants and many more collaborators who will take part in the exercise at NUWC’s Narragansett Bay Test Facility in Newport as well as testing and operational areas in Panama City and a virtual operations site in Keyport, Wash.
NUWC’s component of the ANTX test will focus on prototypes designed for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, while NSWC Panama City will focus on mine warfare. Both sites will participate in a variety of exercises to demonstrate new developments in unmanned air, surface and underwater vehicles and other technologies of interest to the U.S. Navy.
“The United States has national interests in all sea domains, from the sea floor to space. Each domain offers its own unique challenges and opportunities,” NUWC stated in a release. “These connecting links will allow the disparate parts to operate collectively, such that the contributions of each will enhance the warfighting effectiveness of the greater whole.”
