NBC 10 News wins N.E. honors for overall excellence

CRANSTON – The news team at NBC 10 WJAR television has been honored for outstanding achievement in broadcast journalism, in the Television: Small Market class, with a 2008 New England Regional Edward R. Murrow Award for Overall Excellence.
“We are honored as a team to receive such a prestigious award,” Betty-Jo Cugini, vice president of NBC 10 News, said this afternoon in announcing the honor. Channel 10 “will continue to work hard to achieve journalistic excellence,” added Lisa Churchill, the station’s president and general manager.
The awards – named for pioneering broadcast journalist Edward R. Murrow – have been presented by the Radio and Television News Directors Association each year since 1971. The Murrow Awards honor outstanding achievements in electronic journalism. Besides overall excellence, they are given in categories including spot news coverage, continuing coverage and investigative reporting.
Regional winners are automatically entered in the national awards competition, which will be judged in early June. The winners of the 2008 National Edward R. Murrow Awards will be honored this October, at the RTNDA Awards Dinner in New York City.
WJAR-TV/DT Channel 10 – the most-watched television station in the Providence-New Bedford market – is a property of Media General Inc. (NYSE: MEG), a Richmond, Va.-based television and newspaper company. For additional information, visit www.mediageneral.com or www.TurnTo10.com.
