PROVIDENCE – A 13-foot statue created by Woodstock, Vt.-based artist Paul Machalaba has been installed in front of the soon-to-be-opened Homewood Suites by Hilton Providence Downtown, Hilton and First Bristol Corp., the hotel project’s developer, announced Friday.

The sculpture, titled “Elevation II,” is a pre-cast, marine-grade aluminum abstract statue and is Machalaba’s first installation in the Ocean State.

“We wanted to erect a landmark befitting of Providence’s rich culture of artistry, and thanks to Paul, we’ve done just that,” stated Alyssa Karam, asset manager, First Bristol Corp. “We are looking forward to opening our doors in Providence and hope that this sculpture serves as a memorable reference point for citizens and visitors alike and contributes to the growth of outdoor art displays throughout downtown.”

The extended-stay hotel is scheduled to open in January.
