NEWPORT – A celebration was held in late August as the Women’s Resource Center unveiled a new section of its Pathway to Hope.
Begun in 1992, the Pathway to Hope project is an ongoing capital campaign honoring women. The program allows residents to purchase a brick with the name of a woman whom they would like to honor, and have it incorporated into a sidewalk, or pathway, in Newport.

Today, more than 900 bricks line the Pathway to Hope walkway.
Lori DiPersio, executive director of the Women’s Resource Center, which serves Newport and Bristol counties, called the event “lively and fun-filled” in a statement.
“The funds raised from our brick fundraiser helped pave the way to comfort and safety for those affected by domestic violence in our communities,” she added in her prepared remarks.
Additionally, the outdoor porch on the organization’s Newport headquarters was renovated by Eshi Builders, allowing for the front entrance of the building to once again be accessible.
Pathway to Hope bricks are available for purchase at $100 each. Contact Greg Thompson at (401) 236-8352 or gthompson@wrcnbc.org for more information.
