NewportFed opens new Westerly branch

WESTERLY – NewportFed has got a new home in Westerly.
The publicly traded, $452.87 million bank opened the doors of what it is calling a state-of-the-art branch on Jan. 11 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended Kevin McCarthy, bank president and CEO, and Westerly Town Manager Steven Hartford.
The 3,200-square-foot building more than doubles the space of the former Westerly branch, and provides expanded parking, a cafe station, and three drive-through lanes and an ATM. The bank has six branches.
“We are thrilled with this new location, and pleased to be able to provide our customers better parking, expanded access and all the benefits and convenience of a modern full-service banking facility,” McCarthy said. McCarthy stated that he is particularly proud of the design. “This is our third branch to feature stone and shingle design elements, and local officials and customers in each community have been effusive in praising our buildings design and attractiveness,” he said.
“The finished product,” he added, “is a credit to the architectural design firm Strategic DesignWorks who provided the vision, and to contractor Behan Brothers Inc. who executed the plans.”
The bank will be holding a grand opening celebration week, Jan. 31 to Feb. 5, which will include a prize drawing of an Apple iPad, and giveaways all week long. NewportFed will also donate $5 to the Westerly Public Schools for every new checking account opened at this location through Feb. 28.
