PROVIDENCE – The National Weather Service rescinded its winter storm warning for northwestern Rhode Island as of 3:40 p.m. Tuesday, but a winter weather advisory remains in place for for Providence and Kent counties.
Northwestern Providence County is expected to receive snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches and the NWS advises residents should expect hazardous road conditions with snow-covered roads late Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning.

The advisory in this area is for 1 a.m. to 1 p.m. Snow in the eastern Providence County region may be briefly heavy toward daybreak. Snow is expected to give way to rain by midmorning.
Southeastern Providence County and Kent are also under a winter weather advisory but are expected to get total snow accumulation of up to 2 inches. The advisory is in place from 1 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Snow is expected to switch to rain by midmorning. The NWS warns of hazardous travel late Tuesday evening and early Wednesday morning.
Bristol, Newport and Washington counties are no longer under a winter weather advisory.
“Our crews will be coming in at midnight, ahead of the start of the storm. We are not expecting a high intensity snowstorm, but the timing of the snow at rush hour creates its own challenges,” said R.I. Department of Transportation spokesman Charles St. Martin III. “In addition to bringing in crews ahead of the storm, we will position heavy tow trucks at locations where trucks sometimes get stuck climbing hills, to clear them as quickly as possible.”
