Oncologist recognized for work with Hispanic women

PROVIDENCE – Dr. Trevor Tejada-Berges, a gynecologic oncologist at Women & Infants Hospital and assistant professor of gynecologic oncology at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, has been recognized by the American Cancer Society with the Sandra C. Labaree-American Cancer Society New England Division Volunteer Values Award.
The society gives awards annually to volunteers whose actions and service in the fight against cancer best exemplify the organization’s values of mission, diversity, stewardship, data-driven work and respect.
Tejada-Berges was chosen for his work on programming and educational initiatives in the Latino community. The group noted his work in training volunteers, coordinating Spanish-speaking conferences and working with the underserved population.
“He effectively uses his contacts at Women & Infants Hospital, Brown University and beyond to spread our message and make a big impact in the fight against cancer,” the society said.

Women & Infants Hospital is the primary teaching affiliate of the Warren Alpert Medical School for obstetrics, gynecology and newborn pediatrics and houses the seventh-largest obstetrical service in the country, with more than 9,000 deliveries per year.
