PAWTUCKET – The Pawtucket Red Sox issued a call Monday for fans of the team to submit name and nickname recommendations for the team, following its planned move to Worcester, Mass.
Fans are encouraged to submit ideas, along with explanation, at PolarPark.com or by depositing suggestions in ballot boxes posted around the team’s planned new city.

The team said that nominations that tie the team into Massachusetts culture or ideas specific to Central Massachusetts were particularly welcome. Suggestions, the team said, could be “simple and traditional, or wild and wacky.”
“To Woo or not to Woo, that is the question,” said club President Dr. Charles A. Steinberg in a statement. “We have heard from those who would like to call the team the WooSox, and we have heard impassioned pleas from others to not call them the WooSox.”
“We’re eager to hear from fans around Central Massachusetts and all of New England,” added the team’s executive vice president and general manager Dan Rea III.
Submission are due by Nov. 26.
The team’s decision to move to Worcester came after a drawn-out process in Rhode Island regarding the financing of a potential new ballpark in Pawtucket.
