Pawtucket gets $38K for bike-path connection

PAWTUCKET – The city has been awarded $38,000 in federal funding to create a temporary connection linking the Blackstone Valley Bike Path and the East Bay Bike Path.
The funds, announced in a joint news release from the Broad Street Regeneration Initiative and the Blackstone Valley Tourism Council, come from the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act of 2009.
This temporary on-road linkage will provide bicyclists recreational and intermodal access to all cities and towns located along both bikeways.
The Blackstone River Bike Path was first opened in 1998 and straddles the urban centers of Rhode Island’s Blackstone River Valley, along the Blackstone River and Blackstone Canal.
The East Bay Bike Path was the first bikeway established in Rhode Island and runs between India Point in Providence through the coastline of East Providence, Barrington, Warren and Bristol.
The link is expected to be completed by spring 2011. &#8226
