PAWTUCKET – The city has announced the appointment of a new public health and equity leader.

Elizabeth Damoura Moreira, a city resident, begins her new position on Feb. 1. Her responsibilities will include leading the BEAT COVID-19 initiative, a grassroots effort created by city leaders to address the spread of the virus in Pawtucket. As COVID-19 vaccines become available for the general public, Moreira will work with the R.I. Department of Health and various community groups on coordinating vaccine distribution.

Prior to being hired by the city, Moreira oversaw more than a dozen events in which masks were distributed and COVID-19 tests administered.

Moreira joins Kassandra Florez, also of Pawtucket, as the city’s latest hires focused on inclusivity. Florez was recently hired as the city’s constituent liaison.

“Over the past few months, my administration has listened to the needs of our diverse community and brought on a constituent liaison and a public health and equity leader,” said Mayor Donald R. Grebien. “Both individuals will continue to help the city and Public Safety Department to strengthen our relationships and building up our trust in the community.”
